Jakarta, Indonesia – 8 May 2011: The 7^th BIMP-EAGA Summit, chaired by the President of the Philippines, H.E. Benigno Simeon Aquino III was held on 8 May, 2011 at Jakarta Convention Center in conjunction with the 18^th ASEAN Summit. The BIMP Leaders reaffirmed the important role of BIMP-EAGA in the overall effort to promote economic and social development, connectivity and shared prosperity in the subregion in support of ASEAN’s goal of economic integration and renewed their commitment to strengthen cooperation and undertake necessary measures to ensure the expeditious implementation of projects.

  24 participants from the BIMP-EAGA countries representing the government officials from agencies responsible for Fisheries Development and private sector participated in the Invitation Program for Sustainable Management for Fisheries Resources under the Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths (JENESYS) from 6 to 13 March 2011 in Tokyo and Wakayama, Japan. The Invitation Program for Sustainable Development for Fisheries Resources is one of the three invitation programs supported by the Government of Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Center to BIMP-EAGA. 

 The 7th BIMP-EAGA Working Group on Information and Communication Technology (WG on ICT) Meeting on 1 – 3 March 2011 in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam.  The 7th BIMP-EAGA Working Group Meeting was preceded by the CEO ICT Forum, whereby the private sector discussed BIMP-EAGA WG ICT-related projects identified in previous meetings.

 The Ministers responsible for BIMP-EAGA, tropical rainforests and coral reefs of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, met in Temburong, Brunei Darussalam on the 9th March 2011 for the BIMP-EAGA Ministerial Conference on the Heart of Borneo and Coral Reefs.

The 6th BIMP-EAGA Transport Ministers Meeting was held on July 27 in Cagayan De Oro City, Philippines. At the meeting, the four BIMP-EAGA Transport Ministers had an extensive, open and fruitful discussion on the current developments and future directions of BIMP-EAGA transport initiatives. The Ministers urged the transport officials to identify and propose appropriate incentive packages, policy initiatives and related support mechanisms, including the provision of special privileges, to the transport operators in order to promote the sustainability of intra-EAGA connectivity.
